Mügeln

As the former sea of the bishopric of Meissen, there is a lot to discover in Mügeln. Nestled in a hilly landscape, the vast plantations of the Saxon Obstland (“fruit country”) stretch as far as the eye can see, with nature lovers attracted from far and wide the year round, to see more than just springtime blossom. The former Marienthal monastery in Sornzig, built in 1241, is considered to be the birthplace of Saxon fruit cultivation and is now a very popular venue for events.

Embark on a voyage of discovery by taking a journey into the heritage of Saxony’s light railways on the narrow-gauge railway “Wild Robert”. Departing from Oschatz, the tour takes you through gentle meadow landscapes until you reach what was once the largest narrow-gauge railway in Germany in Mügeln. From there, the journey continues with a whistle-stop tour of Glossen’s railway experience, “Bahnerlebniswelt”, which includes the Glossen field railway and the Field Railway Museum, as well as the model railway exhibition.
