Pegau

In the midst of a newly created lakeland landscape lies Pegau, whose old town is a renowned tourist destination. The White Elster river flows through the town and across the Leipzig New Lakeland to reach Leipzig, following the waterway route 1a. The jetty at Schützenplatz was formally opened in 2014. Throughout the year, many cyclists follow the popular New Lakeland and Elster cycling trails to the tranquil old town, which is a great place to while away the hours.

In Pegau, you will encounter friendly people and a cheerful street scape, with many brightly coloured old façades, historic buildings such as the SanktLaurentius church with the cenotaph for Wiprecht of Groitzsch, the renaissance town hall with viewing tower and museum, as well as the Volkshaus and Napoleon’s quarters. Quiet corners, peaceful squares and events mean that a visit to the small town is always rewarding.
