Cycling in the Leipzig region
Whether you're looking for a challenge or something more laid back, cycling tours in the Leipzig region are never boring. Here, cyclists can experience pure history in the most literal sense of the word. Or would you have believed that the highest density of fortresses, castles and parks in all of Saxony is found in the Leipzig area?
One of the most well-known cycling paths is the Mulderadweg. Start your cycling tour in Döbeln, known as the Boot City, and experience incredible scenery along the Freiberger Mulde and the main part of the Mulde River. Here, a natural wetland and marshland environment has been preserved, which is home to many unique flora and fauna. Lovingly reconstructed sites along the course of the river provide an insight into Saxony's impressive cultural history. The cycling path runs by the 12th century Buch Abbey and the 1000-year-old Mildenstein Castle. Its impressive location on steep cliffs above the shores of the Mulde today serves as a faint reminder of the importance of the former imperial castle. The ride from the most beautiful historical town centre in Central Germany in Grimma to Germany's oldest castle in Wurzen takes only two hours by bicycle. The path continues along the Mulde River, winding around Eilenburg to the spa town of Bad Düben. Exhausted cyclists can find peace and relaxation here, for example, with a soothing natural moor mud bath.
Besides the Mulderadweg, the Leipzig region also offers a multitude of cycling paths. We hope that you have a lot of fun on your adventure!
