Activity & nature

Whether lacing up your hiking boots and running shoes or oiling your bike, recreational athletes will find that the Leipzig region ticks all the boxes when it comes to exercise and getting away from it all. Regardless of whether you would rather go on extensive hikes or exciting bike tours – the Leipzig region is full of possibilities.

The beaver tour on the Düben Heath is simply a must for nature-loving hikers. The 30-kilometre multiple award-winning hiking trail runs from Bad Düben to Bad Schmiedeberg through a landscape of virtually untouched flora and fauna.

The Elbe cycle route at Belgern promises to be an eventful trip, as does the Mulde cycle route from Döbeln to Löbnitz (challenging in places). The well-signposted cycling and hiking trail network is best explored on baggage-free biking and hiking tours through the Leipzig region.

Ecological stations and educational forest centres throughout the Leipzig region provide a vivid picture of the relationship between people and the forest. A special experience for young and old alike is to take a forest walk with a ranger or to attend “Wild Animal Sunday”, during which visitors can explore the natural habitats of the beaver or crane.
