initial milestone in the development of water tourism was achieved with the completion of Connewitz lock, providing a continuous link between Leipzig and Lake Cospuden (Route 1).

The next key steps are the construction of a linking canal between the Pleisse and Lake Markkleeberg, and between Lakes Cospuden and Zwenkau. By 2022, the aim is for all routes and lakes in the south Leipzig New Lakeland to be usable as set out in the roadmap below.
