Route plan

START: 0.0 km Elster millrace/external mole of harbour
Enter/leave the water at the landing stage, access via Käthe-Kollwitz-Strasse/Schreberstrasse, parking available.

0.8 km Mouth of the Elster flood relief channel
Caution: danger of death at Palmengarten weir! Keep well clear! Turn left.

1.7 km Horse racing track
Landing stage at the racecourse. Access via Rennbahnweg, parking available.

2.2 km Division of Pleisse and Elster flood relief channels
Continue in the left-hand fork for the Pleisse flood relief channel

3.0 km Connewitz lock with slipway
Self-operated: exercise caution when using technical equipment! Please observe instructions for use! Portage possible.
This is where your journey on the Pleisse through the alluvial forest in the south of Leipzig begins.
To protect this valuable natural environment, please observe the "10 rules for navigating watercourses", only land at designated landing stages and observe the minimum water level requirement (> 30 cm).
Use of the canal is limited during the kingfisher breeding season (April to mid-August).


4.5 km Canal branch
Keep right and continue through the southern alluvial forest.

6.7 km Division of the canal
Keep right; after approx. 50 m you will pass under the S 46 bridge.

6.9 km Forest Lake Lauer[VI1] 
Crossing to the tributary into Lake Cospuden (through Cospuden landscape garden = EXPO Project 2000).

8.3 km Cospuden lock
Self-operated: exercise caution when using technical equipment! Please observe instructions for use! Portage possible.

8.6 km Lake Cospuden
For your own safety, please observe the wind and weather conditions on Lake Cospuden before proceeding. The northern shore has options for landing on the beach on the left and right-hand banks.

FINISH: 10.7 km Zöbigker Harbour
Landing pier.

Once the construction of the Harth canal and Harth lock is completed (2021) it will be possible to travel onward to Lake Zwenkau. It will then be necessary to go around the closed-off area by the south-eastern shore of Lake Cospuden.
